Get to know Julia Edwards

What do you do for a living?

I’m a Statistician at the MOD - but definitely not as boring as my job makes me sound!

How long have you been running with EGRC?

Having recently retired from netball (my life for 30 years) I was looking for that next ‘something’, EGRC was that next something and joined in Feb this year.

What do you enjoy most about running?

You can do it wherever you are, all you need is a pair of trainers.

How do you spend the rest of your spare time?

I love the outdoors and can regularly be found out on my bike. Lockdown put the brakes on that (no pun intended) so took the opportunity to hone in on my cooking skills.

What is your favourite food?

eat everything! At uni I was known affectionately as the human dustbin.

Do you have a favourite race/event/distance, if so tell us about it?

With Saturdays now netball free I started getting into parkruns. I love the concept and its values, the inclusivity, the fact that it’s accessible to all and that no matter where you go you are warmly welcomed.

Where is the best place you have ever run?

Relatively new on the running scene I’ve not been anywhere exotic but two events spring to mind; the Westonbirt 10k because despite being a 2 lap course it felt downhill all the way lol, and the Forest of Dean Half Marathon, the first half was an absolute killer but got a second wind from somewhere and felt like I was flying the second half, an amazing feeling.

What is top of your bucket list?

I’ve done a few things in my time – tough mudder, bungee jumps, sky dives, white water rafting and climbed a few mountains like Kilimanjaro but now travelling is calling me again. About 15 years ago I took 6 months off work and backpacked mainly around Australasia. This time I’d like to explore Asia (although given the current situation this may have to wait a few years!)
