I thought I’d bore you all with knowing that I live directly above the staple hill tunnel. When staple hill station ceased operating in the late 1960’s, the rank of houses at the bottom of my road were all built. As you run through the tunnel, I’m sure you have seen that the two air shafts are still in tact and one of them is situated directly infront of my house. The deeds to my home show that my house is the only one in the street to be directly above the cycle path as it now stands. This personally fascinates me every time that we all run through it. I think it’s amazing 😀

I learnt something new today in run school from a boy aged about six who was very interested in pylons. I tried to suggest he might want to look out for Star Wars pictures but he was much more interested to tell me that some pylons have horizontal insulators and some have vertical insulators. Something I had never consciously noticed before. Had you? Sorry, not able to adequately show the vertical insulators in the selfie as they were quite a way above my head.

An enlightening classroom discussion ensued:
Kerrie Antoinettte Roberts: I have no idea what a vertical insulator looks like, I’ll be staring at pylons now until I know

Siân Harris: They are the bits between the tower and the cables. The young boy was calling them coils because that's what they look like but they are insulators. About a metre long, look like lumpy sausages.

Siân Harris: Sometimes they hang down from the towers and sometimes they stick out straight. I'm not describing very well but you'll see what I mean when you start looking at pylons!
