Teenager in Lockdown
As a 15 year old boy, I’ve spent most of quarantine in my bedroom doing some school work but mainly playing Xbox and watching TV. A lot of my friends haven’t done any exercise in lockdown and sometimes I’m not motivated to go on a run. But as part of my Forest Green FC training I’ve been given a schedule to keep to (5k on Mondays and Wednesdays and a 7k on Saturdays).
Having a schedule makes me feel as if I would be failing myself if I miss a run. But I find it impossible to run without listening to music as this makes it more fun if you’re on your own. I use Spotify premium and it’s a great way to find new music whilst also going through the old classics. Every Monday I get a weekly recommended list of songs based on what I have recently been listening too. I have started going on runs for the sole purpose of having time to listen to music and I forget that I’m actually keeping my fitness up.
The schedule and my music are what keeps me motivated to keep going on frequent runs without taking a break one day. Another thing that helps is that I make sure to never run the same route twice in a row or even in the same week. Mixing the routes up helps me stay interested and I have found many places to run that I’ve never seen before. I like using the ‘Map my Run’ app to keep a record of my runs - it also times me, keeps track of distance, gives me updates of how I am doing mid-run, and gives the option of sharing my route with other runners.
I’m really missing my football games but I’m hoping my fitness levels will not have dropped too much by the time we are allowed back to the football club!
