Social News

Seven weeks into lockdown, with zero actual socialising going on, I’ve really struggled knowing what to write for the newsletter this time around. The novelty of being at home and the promise of free time to ‘do all the things I’ve wanted to do but have been too busy’ has worn off a bit. I feel like I usually do at the end of the school summer holidays; rather than being relaxed and re-charged, my body and mind are craving the structure of a normal working week and the feeling of release and potential to socialise that a weekend brings.  See the Well Runner page in the newsletter for some tips I have found on keeping motivated.

The social aspect is more than drinking and pubs (although that’s part of it of course). For me, and I guess for most people, it’s a lot to do with talking, laughing and connecting with other people. Being part of a running club means being able to breathe and put the world to rights with people who understand the need to chat and run and moan and laugh, all at the same time.

However in anticipation of the time when we can socialise again, I’ve been spending some of my time reading about new cocktails on the scene……I’m obviously going to have to sample some of these - purely for research purposes on behalf of club of course….. #dedication

Covid-Ninetini – a regular martini that you drink during a Coronavirus quarantine.

Coronarita – made with Corona beer, tequila and lime. Sometimes called a Mexican Bulldog Margarita or a Mexican Car Crash. Sombreros optional.

Quarantini - made with vodka or gin or beer or cider or wine, often consumed in isolation, or via a virtual “happy hour” with similarly isolated friends.

Corona Sunrise - one of the tastiest variations on the classic tequila sunrise out there. Coronita, orange juice, grenadine, and tequila, garnished with orange and ice. If you haven’t been to the shops in a while, any or all of these items can be substituted with whatever you do have in the cupboard.

Pandemic Punch - This is a delicious and deadly cross between sangria and the type of punch mixed during Fresher’s week….white wine, lemonade, sugar, frozen berries.

The No-School Runner – vodka, elderberry syrup and orange juice – bring on the vitamin C, antioxidants and healthy vibes.
