Kevin Knight

Get to know fellow EGRC runner, Kevin Knight.  Big thumbs up to Kevin who, as a keyworker, has helped keep essential postal services going throughout the coronavirus pandemic and he has also been fundraising for NHS charities at the same time.   This is the link for the fundraising page if you haven't already made a donation! https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/fishpondsrm

What do you do for a living?

I have been a postman for 21 years working out of the Fishponds office, most of those years delivering to addresses in Emersons Green. Some of you might have spotted me around Emersons Green dressed as Austin Powers recently when we had a day delivering in fancy dress to raise money for the NHS.

How long have you been running with EGRC?

Just over 5 years. I got dragged along by my wife Nicola in January 2015 to do the couch to 5k, Nicola dropped out after a few weeks and I'm still here now.

What do you enjoy most about running?

It makes me feel good. I have suffered with anxiety and running really helps. I have always woke up early being a postman and prior to that working in a bakery and its lovely getting out early with my headphones on and doing a run, its a good to start to the day. I also love being part of club and running with everyone and doing different races.

How do you spend the rest of your spare time?

I love my music especially seeing bands live in concert, I also like football, growing up in Eastville I'm a Gashead of course, I've also been a full member of Gloucestershire CC for many years and I can always be found at the county ground or Cheltenham Festival.

What is your favourite food?

Fish and chips with a pint at the seaside

Do you have a favourite race/event/distance? If so tell us about it.

It has to be Doynton hard half , probably the best race in the world, best organised and fantastic Marshals.

Where is the best place you have ever run?

Thats a hard question, I love doing Cardiff Half and starting in front of the castle and Woolcombe beach 10k but I would probably have to say Barnstaple where I done my first Marathon, running along the river Taw on part of the Tarka Trail.

What is top of your bucket list?

Running, it has to be complete the London Marathon, I finally manage to get in this year so hopefully in October it might happen. Non running to go on Red Force at Ferrari land in Port Adventura in Spain. As a family we have had several holidays there in Salou where Port Aventura theme park is, I'm frightened of any fast rides, roller coasters etc.. just once would like to face my fears and get on one.
