Race Profile

Hanham Horror by Nicola Tanner

11am on 12 April aka Easter Sunday

For entry/further details click here

Real distance:

5.5 (ish) miles

But Feels like:

An undulating trail 10k

Terrain:

A bit of grass, a bit of road, lots of root-strewn twisty woodland paths, some uneven steps, the Avon towpath, oh and a fully vertical what seemed like a cliff-face to be ascended by rope.

Flat/hills ratio:

Approx 1/3 undulating sections and 2/3 flattish in between bits

Organisation rating:

Yes it’s run by Bitton Road Runners (booooo) but was very well organised last year, race HQ was at a pub with handy facilities, plenty of very friendly marshals, fab cake sale at the end!

Cost/value for money:

£13 for affiliated runners, usual sort of club-organised race value I’d say!

Most likely to be heard saying before the race:

“What a better way to spend an Easter Sunday, work up an appetite for a Creme Egg or two, this’ll be lovely.”

Most likely to be heard saying during the race:

“Ooh look at all the lovely bluebells in the woods. But wait a second how the bloody hell am I getting up that cliff???”

Most likely to be heard saying after the race:

“Thank God race HQ is at a pub, I need a pint after that. And thank you very much to the kind marshal at the top of the rope who hauled me up the cliff…”

If I could change one thing about the race:

After years of the race being a mud-bath, last year it was an Easter heatwave and I needed sun lotion rather than extra layers. So I’d like to go back and hydrate a bit better!

Person I would like to buy this race entry for:

Anyone who loves a bit of race bling, as the Easter bunny horror-themed medals are fab
