A message about mental health

Following Mental Health Awareness week, last week and then the sad news of the passing of Graham Bazely who ran with TACH, as a Club it seems like a good time to highlight the importance of mental health awareness and checking in on eachother every now and then. Thank you to Leanne Ford for sharing her thoughts on this matter and bringing to our attention the thought provoking post from Jim Gump in the link below.

"Graham sadly took his own life and I was talking to a friend of mine tonight, at Hogweed, who knew Graham and she was saying how much of a ‘family’ her running club are to her. It made me think how EGRC has definitely become my ‘family’ in recent years and I know that many other club members feel the same way. My friend and I were talking about a post we had seen on Facebook last night that had been written by Jim ‘Gump’. For anyone who isn't familiar with Jim I heard him talk at RunFest a few years ago and remember what an amazing man he is. The post he has written on his page in the link below, is called  Mayflies. I read it and it really affected me. I felt I had seen posts from several club members over the years that made me relate very much to this article and worry about them but selfishly I didn’t check in on them as I always assumed someone else would and I assumed they have the help they need. However the article is quite powerful in highlighting mental health awareness and helping to ensure we are all a little more aware of our EGRC family" 😊

Mental health problems can affect anyone, any day of the year and there are several organisations who can always be on hand to provide information and support to anyone that needs it.  See links below.  But always remember to have a chat with a friend, family member, colleague or of course, running club buddy - it always helps to share 😊
