Up and Coming News

June arrived and brought typical summer weather, yes, it poured down, went hot, went cloudy and rained on a repeat cycle!  The third friendly mile time, where 28 runners braved the downpours, resulted in some excellent PBs to reward them for getting soaked. For the rest of the weeks we averaged 50 runners per session, enjoying Parlauf and a track session at Mangotsfield led by run leader Pam, where we practised technique, sprinted relays and ran in formation as Sharp's rifles.

We start July with our Captains hosting an Up and Coming runner's away run from the Mason's Arms in Stapleton with follow up refreshments rumoured to include appropriate refuelling - sausages, chips and beer. Please support this and enjoy! More information about this on the Noticeboard page of the newsletter

At Chipping Sodbury parkrun last weekend there was a run / walk pacer.  Run / walking is becoming more popular and can be a really effective way of increasing your mileage or returning from a break from running. It's often referred to as "jeffing" after Olympian Jeff Galloway, a US run coach who advocates this method and runs marathons this way. He maintains he's run injury-free into his 70's this way and advocates a really accessible approach to doing this. If you want to find out more visit his website http://www.jeffgalloway.com/learn/stories/ to hear how runners used this to tackle races over a variety of distances at times you might be surprised at.  Enjoy your runs!
