The Inside Track

Rebecca Britton

Rebecca is running her first ultra later this year, raising funds for Teenage Cancer Trust.  You can check out her progress at www.justgiving.com/R-Britton-Ultra
When she is not training for an ultra, Rebecca loves creating healthy meals so she has also provided us with a recipe for this months newsletter on the Well Runner page

What do you do for a living?

I am the Senior Executive Assistant to the Deputy Chief Financial Officer at the University of Bristol (a bit of a long winded job title, so in short I usually say PA to the CFO!

How long have you been running with EGRC?

I joined not long after I ran the Rodway 10k (and won 1st female!) in March 2016.

What do you enjoy most about running?

How adaptive it is, it gives back what you put in and gives you whatever experience you want from it. It's yours to find headspace, to let off steam, to burn calories before a big blowout meal, to blow out the day's cobwebs, and last but not least, to socialise with the wonderful people I have met at EGRC.

How do you spend the rest of your spare time?

Cross training to keep up with my general fitness, I need variety in life! Yoga, strength training, cycling and walking. I love experimenting in the kitchen with healthy recipes, and baking too but I'm not very good at that! Family is very important to me as well.

What is your favourite food?

A big homemade falafel salad with lashings of tahini. Salads don't have to be dull you know!

Do you have a favourite race/event/distance? If so tell us about it.

I like the endurance of running a half marathon and the sense of achievement after it. Since 2012 I have run a few and found it is easy to become a bit flippant about them now, but it is half a marathon and that should not be sniffed at by anyone who runs them. Trail runs are my favourite these days, preferably routes that are dryish and pretty! I recently enjoyed RunFestRun's inaugural half marathon at Bowood Estate near Chippenham, which was on varied terrain on a warm sunny day with nice surroundings.

Where is the best place you have ever run?

Gosh that's hard to remember but one beautiful place I can fondly recall is sunrise and sunset runs along the clifftops in the Algarve whilst on a yoga and fitness retreat in 2014.

What is top of your bucket list?

It hasn't always been a bucket wish, but listening to all you amazing long distance runners over the past few months has given me a desire to achieve an ultra marathon. In fact I have even just signed up to my first 50km run along the North Downs on 28th September, raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust. Despite having rather dodgy knees I am so determined to complete my mission!
