Up and Coming News

Hello everyone

I hope you're all keeping well and safe.  It's been great to see all the contributions for the alphabet challenge - keeping us  in touch and getting us to be creative.  My offering this month is a round up of a few different ways to keep motivated or try something new.

Virtual runs are a great way of giving you a goal to focus on without an actual event.  Whether you want to raise money for the NHS (www.racethedistance.com) or challenge yourself to run 1083 miles which is the distance from Lands End to John O'Groats (www.theconqueror.events), there's something out there for everyone.

Steve Burge had been planning a Star Wars themed run for our May 4th session and so in lieu of that we're asking you to go for a run and post a selfie with #maythefourthbewithyou in the post.  Fancy dress optional!

If you're not bothered about medals but want some friendly competition, Garmin lets you set up challenges with friends and logs your miles over weeks / months or longer - and it warns you when your competitors have logged a run too! If you've never used one of Garmin's training programmes they're a good way of getting you to do hills, intervals, farleks, tempo runs - just choose the programme and let it diary the sessions for you.

Joe Wicks isn't the only PT offering free sessions to keep everyone moving - Julia Buckley is offering free daily HIIT sessions - Facebook.com/JuliaBfit or check out Sona Pilates for a variety of different workouts.  It's a good time to try something different and the Yoga for beginners app is a really good introduction to a practice that can definitely help with your running.

And finally, if you enjoy the Running commentary podcast Paul Tonkinson has recently published his first book - an account of training to beat a sub-3 hour marathon - "26.2 miles to happiness".  Book review anyone?

Whatever you do to stay motivated, stay safe and well.
